The Intensive General English Course is 22.5 hours per week.

You can choose the intensive timetable for your entire stay or for the beginning of your stay only, for example 2, 4, 8 weeks to give that extra boost in communication skills on first arrival to Cork.

Course Outline
The main focus of all the General English courses is on communication skills in real life settings. Classes cover all of the language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on speaking and listening.
Students on the Intensive 22.5 hour course follow a separate syllabus for an extra 7.5 hours per week in the afternoons. Classes include a separate range of topics integrating all language skills, however, the main focus is on conversation and speaking.
There are 7.5 extra hours of teacher contact time per week which offers an opportunity to progress faster.
The 7.5 hours Communicative Classes for 3 types of user:
Foundation User (A1/A2):
- Focus on interactions in day to day situations, using frequently used and common expressions , describing things around you and things you need!
- Focus on how to talk about yourself, your past and plans for the future.
Independent User (B1/B2):
- Focus on how to interact with native speakers with more fluency and spontaneity, describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions.
- Focus on discussing topics , your viewpoint and opinions in more detail
Proficient User (C1/C2):
- Focus on understanding a wide range of demanding texts and complex subjects and being able to summarise information from different spoken and written sources.
- Focus on fluency and spontaneity using idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms.

Minimum Students Required for the 22.5 Hour Intensive Course
- Students registered on the 22.5 hour intensive course will follow the 15 hour group course syllabus in the morning (Monday to Friday 09.00 to 12:15) and in the afternoons move to skills and communication based lessons :1.5 hours extra per day Monday to Friday 13:15 to 14:45.
- There are a minimum number of 4 students per class needed for the extra 1.5 hours classes.
- If there are not 4 students for the specific dates , depending on availability we may be able to offer a conversion to private lessons ( 2 hours private lessons per week) but this depends on teacher and classroom availability.
