There are lots of parks and green spaces dotted around the city center and neighboring suburbs, as well as beautiful walkways following the banks of the River Lee. Some of our favorite areas in Cork city are listed here.
Bell’s Field
You will find this area by walking to the top of Patrick’s Hill in the immediate city centre. The short climb is worth it for the views.
Fitzgerald Park
Located on the Mardyke Walk, only a short distance from the city centre and University College Cork.
The Lee Fields
Take a walk by the banks of the river Lee. The southside of the river has an official pathway suitable for cycling or walking . The northside is more of a grassy nature trail, suitable for walking only.
Regional Park
The park has several playing pitches, a skate park, river walks, woodland trails and numerous picnic areas.
There is a Parkrun held here every Saturday at 09.30. This is a free timed, 5km run.
The Lough
A scenic bird sanctuary popular for activities like yoga and slacklining.
From June to July, it hosts “Céilí Cois Locha,” a free outdoor Irish dancing session on Wednesdays from 19:30 to 21:00.
Tramore Valley
This park has a 2.5 km looped walkway, BMX track, outdoor gym and rugby pitches.
There is a Parkrun held here every Saturday at 09.30. This is a free timed, 5km run.
Beaumount Quarry
This is one of the more unusual but beautiful parks in Cork. It is an old abandoned limestone quarry, now used for recreation. It is very important for local biodiversity and wildlife conservation.
Glen River Park
An ancient glacial valley known as ‘The Glen’.
There is a Parkrun held here every Saturday at 09.30. This is a free timed, 5km run.
Marina Walkway
Stretching along the River Lee’s south channel, this peaceful path runs from the Atlantic Pond to Blackrock Village, offering stunning views and fresh air.
Lough Mahon Loop
Starting at Blackrock Castle, the route follows a public looped walkway with views of the river and harbour.
The area is very popular for running and walking.
Cork Greenway
Greenways in Ireland are paths converted from disused railway lines.
This is a fantastic route and connects Passagewest and Rochestown to the city centre.
The Marina Park
This urban park has a smooth paved platform which is perfect for roller blading, skating, running and walking.
