Cork English Academy can arrange a Viva Ireland shared apartment room or host family for you on arrival to Cork.

  • Viva Ireland is an experienced accommodation provider in Cork offering city centre shared apartment or shared house rooms.
  • Our host families are in Cork City suburbs along the Cork City bus bus route (bus numbers 201 to 220).

Viva Ireland Shared Apartments

  • Accommodation is self-catering. You will have a shared living and kitchen area. You can prepare your own food and meals in the shared kitchen.
  • Walking distance to the school (average 15 minutes).
  • Self check-in  (24 hours, 7 days per week).
  • Utility bills, TV, Wi-Fi, one duvet and bed linen set included.
  • Access to laundry facilities.

Viva Ireland Shared Apartment Price: 

  • Single room €245 per week
  • Twin room €168 per person per week
    – One student can book one bed in a twin room.
    – Or 2 students travelling together can book a twin room.
  • Double room €168 per person per week – double rooms can only be booked by couples travelling together
  • Single room with private bathroom – limited availability – and only available to accommodation bookings of 8 weeks or more – €266 per week
  • Double Bed (Single occupancy) €259
  • Placement fee €80 per person
  • Security Deposit for 1 to 7 week bookings: €100 (refundable)
  • Security Deposit for 8 or more week bookings: €300 (refundable)
  • Viva Ireland will send you an email on your check in date which will contain a link to complete the security deposit authorization – The easiest way is to complete the payment by card, which is an authorization only. No fees will be deducted from the card if you have left the accommodation as you found it without issues.

Cleaning

Viva Ireland offer a clean room with fresh linen, in addition to biweekly common areas cleanings as well as quick and efficient maintenance service. It still responsibility of all customers to contribute to regular household chores in order to maintain, at any time, an acceptable status of order and cleanliness.

Host Family 

Cork English Academy can look for a host family for you. Live with a friendly host family in Cork where you will get to experience life in an Irish household and practice your English in real life situations. Carefully selected, friendly host families who are ready to welcome you into their home.

1. Host Family with meals (Half-board)

  • Half-board Monday to Friday, full-board Saturday and Sunday. You will have breakfast and evening meal provided Monday to Friday and Breakfast, lunch and evening meal on Saturday and Sunday.
  • €220 per week for single room
  • €195 per week per student for a twin or double room
  • Christmas supplement: €50 (23 December to 5th January). Very limited Christmas availability
  • Supplement for Vegan of Coeliac Diets €25 per week 

A €60 accommodation placement fee applies to all host family bookings.

2. Host Family Room Only (Self-Catering)

  • This is a self-catering option. Similar to a rent a room option but with friendly hosts who Cork English Academy has carefully selected, visited and partnered with.
  • Meals are not provided. This option is room only.
  • You have access to the host family kitchen to prepare and cook food you buy yourself.

    €190 per week for single room
    €165 per week per student for a twin or double room

A €60 accommodation placement fee applies to all host family bookings.

More About Host Family Stay

  • Host Families are on the Cork City bus route(Cork City Bus Red Zone) (Bus numbers 201 to 220). Average journey by bus from host family to school is 30 minutes.
  • Transfers to and from Cork airport /Cork City on your arrival and departure are included.
  • Host family stays are based on a Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday booking
  • Host Family bookings are based on arriving to Cork between 08.00 and 00.00 midnight only (no late arrivals). 
  • Arriving to Ireland on a late or mid week flight? Book a hostel in Cork and your host family can pick you up from that hostel on the Saturday or Sunday morning.
  • Transfers to and from Cork airport /Cork City on your arrival and departure are included.
  • Wi-Fi Internet
  • Access to laundry facilities
  • Students are not permitted to smoke in host family homes. 
  • General check-out time is 11am unless the host family permits a later check-out on special request by the student.
  • Host Family stay is not suitable for those who need to remote work or work from home. Students who need to remote work or work from home should look for a shared apartment stay rather than a host family stay.

TFI Leap Card

Keep in mind students may need to buy a bus pass. TFI Leap Card is up to 30% cheaper than cash single fares. You can travel on Cork City Bus Éireann services and selected others like the Cobh Connect, for as little as:

  • €1.35 a journey with a TFI Adult Leap Card

  • €0.65 a journey with a TFI Young Adult (23 years or younger) or Student Leap Card (must be studying for at least 6 months).

ScholarLee Mardyke – Available from January 2024

  • ScholarLee Mardyke which will consist of 3, 5, 6 & 7 bedroom, self-catering, apartments. Each private room will consist of a double bed, work space and private ensuite. The shared kitchen/living area is fully equipped with standard & small appliances, cookware and dishware for all guests use. 
  • All bills and utilities are included in the monthly fees which includes high-speed wi-fi . Linen options are available, if required, and Laundry Service on site at an additional small fee.

Hosting Power

  • You can make an accommodation booking directly with Hosting Power.
  • Hosting Power is a platform where students can book a room in someone’s home. It is usually room only and no meals are provided.
  • Students will need to create a booking on the website, sign confirmation and pay a deposit.
  • The service fee is around €429 but if you divide that by example 4 weeks when rooms are between €110 and €130 per week , it is close to other accommodation provider prices.
  • Booking  6, 8, 10 weeks etc is better value as the service fee is still around €429.
  • Look out for rooms in Cork in the following areas: Blackrock, Mayfield, Tivoli, Glanmire, Broadale, Carrigaline, Ballinlough, and Douglas (all on a city bus route).
  • There are other rooms in Cobh, Millstreet, Mallow, Watergrasshill, Crosshaven.
  • These are in County Cork but not city or suburbs.

Rentola

  • You can make an accommodation booking directly with Rentola.
  • Rentola is a platform where students can book a room in someone’s home. It is usually room only and no meals are provided.
  • Students will need to create a booking on the website, sign confirmation and pay a monthly subscription.
  • There is a 7 day trial for just €1. If you find a room within seven days you can cancel your subscription and no further fee is charged.
  • The monthly subscription is around €39 but once you have secured a room you can cancel the subscription at any time.
