Work and Study Course Explained

This course is suitable for students outside of the EU who need to formalize their stay in Ireland for Immigration purposes.

The Work and Study course is an 8 month programme including a 25 week course and 2 month vacation period.

What are the similarities between General English (EU Students) and Work and Study (non-EU student) Courses?

  • The courses are the same
  • The course prices are the same
  • EU and non-EU students are placed in the same internationally mixed classes according to their specific English language level.

The difference is that Work and Study Courses have extra requirements in line with Immigration rules:

  • Final external exam
  • Medical insurance
  • Learner Protection

Right to work

Being enrolled on a Work and Study course allows students from outside of the EU to work while in Ireland. Non European students can work 40 hours per week during the months of June, July, August and September and from 15 December to 15 January inclusive. At all other times you can work up to 20 hours per week.

This allows you put what you have learned in class into practice in real life work settings.

European students are able to work in Ireland in general, without restriction. Being enrolled on a language course is not necessary.
