Here you will find some important information about your time in Ireland after you arrive.
You will need to register with Immigration within the first few weeks of arriving into Ireland. The better prepared you are before arriving to Ireland the smoother and quicker the Immigration registration process will be.
Opening an Irish Bank Account
The AIB bank at this address in Cork City are currently opening bank accounts for Cork English Academy students:

To open a bank account you will need the following documents:
- Original School Letter (signed and stamped)
- Original Bank Letter (signed and stamped)
- Medical insurance with address in Cork
- Passport
- Irish mobile number
On your first visit to AIB, please bring all of your documents with you.
The bank will give you an appointment to return to open your Irish bank account.
If you are a couple, make sure that you open 2 separate bank accounts.
When you receive your bank card and PIN code you can then deposit or transfer your €3,000.
Applying for your Irish Residence Permit (IRP)
To apply for your IRP card you will need:
- Completed IRP-1 form
- Original School Letter
- Medical Insurance (in colour)
- Passport
- The IRP card fee of €300 must be paid by credit card, laser card or bank giro. This fee cannot be paid by cash.
- Proof of Finance
Proof of Finance Options
Option 1—Irish bank statement & a mini-bank statement dated the same day as registration.
*for option 2 and 3 you must provide an additional proof of address in Cork e.g. phone bill, electricity bill, landlord’s contract
Option 2—Proof from a foreign bank.
This must include a bank statement not less than 1 month old with a balance of €3,000 and another statement not less than 6 months old.
Please provide a print out of the currency converter in Euros on the day of registration.
Option 3—Proof via a pre-paid credit or debit card.
All accommodation addresses on all documents must be the same.
