Teacher Trainer CLIL

The Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) Course at Cork English Academy is designed for non-native teachers of English who teach academic subjects through the English language.

The course aims to help participants refresh and polish their own language skills while introducing and sharing new approaches to teaching academic subjects through English.

Participants will explore practical and innovative ideas for teaching through the English language. Participants will also experience language-teaching methods through classroom interaction in English.

The course is full of ideas and teaching styles to enable participants to plan their classes and motivate their students. Participants will have the opportunity to develop and practice these techniques, revitalise their teaching approach, and add to the stock of resources for their classes.

Participants will investigate a wide range of topics including:

  • Exploring the principles behind CLIL
  • Planning a CLIL lesson
  • Understanding the language demands of a CLIL class
  • Peer CLIL teaching and reflection
  • Providing instruction and feedback in the CLIL class
  • Games and activities to use in your classrooms
  • Understanding CLIL lesson management
  • Language and discourse analysis
  • Teaching methodology
  • Lesson planning and delivery
  • Exploiting and adapting materials
  • Promoting learner autonomy
  • Assessment and error correction

Course Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • Tuition Schedule 26 hours per week: Monday to Friday 09.00- 13.30 & Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 14.30 -16.30
  • Organised Tours & Activities : 10 extra hours contact time per week including Half day tours on Mondays and Fridays
  • Suitable for Primary, Secondary and Adult education teachers
