English Language Students Hit the Race Track

Cork English Academy’s International students are always looking for new and exciting things to do in Cork city. Our group General English courses are in the mornings or afternoons so this leaves students free for evening activities. Last week Natalie from the Cork English Academy team brought a group along to Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium.

Yes that is greyhound racing and not horse racing. This is quite a popular sport in Ireland!

It is a great night out. The races are short and very quick. The dogs are let out of their pins and follow a motorized hare around the track. The dogs are numbered and wear jerseys like that in horse racing so it is easy to keep track of the dog you chose to win. You can place bets for as little as €1.

The stadium has a bar and a restaurant in a nice informal setting which is perfect for a group of excited English language students. We hope you all enjoyed yourself. Remember to keep an eye on the Social Activities board in room 14 to keep up to date on new activities.
